Transatlantic quintet Aerialists meld their ferociously creative harmonic sensibilities and deep love for folk traditions into a post-rock coloured sound called prog-trad.Long bio:
Featuring Scottish harpist Màiri Chaimbeul (Darol Anger & The Furies, Brìghde Chaimbeul), and Canadian neo-folk innovators Adam Iredale-Gray (Fish & Bird) on guitar and Elise Boeur (Jenny Ritter) on fiddle, the group draws from the wells of Nordic and Gaelic music, adding expansive textures and meticulously sculpted arrangements to create captivating, genre-defying new music.
"A veritable (prog-trad) folk super-group whose next moves promise to be extraordinary" - David Morrison, Folk Radio UK
Aerialists are an extraordinary group of talented musicians that bend genres and sound. A collaboration of guitarist Adam Iredale-Gray (Fish & Bird), Scottish harpist Màiri Chaimbeul (Darol Anger & The Furies), and fiddler Elise Boeur (Jenny Ritter), the group met when they were attending Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. Recognising in each other a shared fascination with craft and harmony, fueled by late-night jams in the thriving Boston music scene, Aerialists was formed in May 2014.
Their eclectic musical sensibilities and intuitive instrumentation create an engaging tapestry of sound packed with depth, emotion and history. Happy to be unclassifiable, but rooted in their deep knowledge of Nordic and Gaelic music, with a modern pop approach to arranging, and expansive post-rock textures, Aerialists are creating captivating and genre-defying new music.
Their first full length album, Group Manoeuvre was released in fall 2017 alongside an extensive Canadian and European tour. The album is a powerful collection of brilliant tunewriting, evocative harmonies and imaginative arrangements. Aerialists take no shortcuts in their music: at turns reflective and exhilarating, they are fully committed to an expansive and wonderfully unique sound.
B.C. born Adam Iredale-Gray is a founding member of the critically acclaimed indie folk band Fish & Bird and toured with them extensively for the past 9 years. He is originally from Mayne Island B.C. but now resides in Toronto. Boeur immersed herself in traditional Irish music in her youth, later moving between jazz schools in North America and Norwegian folk music college in the mountains of Telemark. Chaimbeul was raised in a Gaelic-speaking family of musicians and artist in the remote Isle of Skye. In demand through North America and in Europe, she is an award-winning Scottish harpist who combines a deeply rooted sense of Gaelic tradition with a distinctive improvising voice and honed classical technique.
